The City’s storm drain system is composed of drywells, roadways, storm drains, local lakes and retention basins. The storm drain system consists of approximately 185 miles of conveyance. The City’s primary discharge locations include: Tempe Town Lake, Papago Park Pond, Kiwanis Lake, Evelyn Hallman Park Pond, Indian Bend Wash and the Salt River. Storm water runoff does not go to a treatment plant.
The City of Tempe is a Phase I community and has obtained a permit from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality for the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System. The City is implementing best management practices (BMPs) to reduce the amount of pollutants entering the storm sewer system. The City has developed an implementation plan that is contained within the Storm Water Management Plan.
